Founded in 1989, Women in the Visual Arts, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation whose focus is to
promote interest in the Visual Arts in South Florida through its programs, activities and scholarships.
Over 250 WITVA members participate in a wide range of community services including:
AWARDING SCHOLARSHIPS: WITVA recognizes artistic achievement each year by awarding scholarships to
college students wishing to further their studies in the Visual Arts at local colleges and
universitites. In 2007, $6800 in scholarships were awarded to five students.
HOSPITALART: WITVA members create artwork to brighten the walls of area
not-for-profit hospitals, clinics, children & youth centers.
WONDERFUL WORLD OF ART: WITVA members introduce the world of art to children of Kindergarten & First
Grade levels in public schools.
SPRING CELEBRATION OF HIGH SCHOOL ART: Each year 23 Palm Beach County High Schools are invited to
participate in an Exhibit, which is shown at SUGAR SAND PARK for one month. A Certificate of Participation
is given to each student and awards are given to the best work. Last year WITVA awarded over $8,400 in
Scholarships, Awards and Prizes. The teachers are given a Certificate of Appreciation for their dedication.
VISIONS IN ART: A Slide presentation on Visual Arts is available to local organizations upon request
at no fee.
ART IN PUBLIC PLACES: Members' artwork is regularly displayed at community centers, senior centers,
recreation centers and medical centers on an on-going basis throughout the year.
ART SHOWS: Numerous member exhibitions are held throughout the year, as well
as one juried show which is open to all South Florida artists over the age of 18. Cash prizes and ribbons
are awarded.
