Women in the Visual Arts, Inc. (WITVA), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization was founded in 1989 with the aim of promoting public interest in the visual arts through its programs and activities. Currently, WITVA has over 250 members from all over South Florida. Our funds are used to grant scholarships to college graduate students, to support high school art students with an exhibition/competition each year, and to purchase supplies for our HOSPITALART program. The organization’s monthly meetings serve as a forum for art education and networking for our members and guests. Exhibitions are held in a variety of venues each year, providing opportunities for members to display their artwork.

WITVA’S PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
* Awarding College Scholarships to worthy, talented students entering or already enrolled in graduate art programs. Last year we awarded $10,500 to students from Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University.

* Honoring Palm Beach County high school artists and their teachers with the “Annual Spring Celebration of High School Art”, a month long exhibition at SUGAR SAND PARK, concluding with an Awards Reception attended by the students, their families and their teachers. A local dignitary gives the keynote address stressing the importance of ART in the public schools.

* The Wonderful World of Art program introduces kindergarten and first grade public school students to the Masters. Our members work with teachers to present artworks and guide students in discussions about them.

* Members of our HOSPITALART program design and paint canvases which are donated to not-for-profit organizations such as hospitals, community centers and shelters for abused women and children. Since 1999, more than 2000 canvases have been donated in the Miami/Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in South Florida.

* Visions In Art is a lecture explaining the various media with slides of WITVA members work used to illustrate each. It is free to any organization wishing to present an interesting and educational program.  A donation to our College Scholarship would be appreciated.

* WITVA Art Shows four (4) times a year with one (1) open to all  South Florida artists (men and women) over the age of 18. Exhibitions have been held at the Coral Springs Museum, Cornell Museum in Delray Beach, the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, the American Orchid Society, the Delray Beach Library, the West Palm Beach City Hall and Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton. Receptions are held for each event and cash prizes are awarded. Other non-juried exhibits by individual artists are ongoing.
